WHAT DO YOU DO?
I joined SWK Technologies in May, 2011 as a consultant and then as a regular employee in October, 2011. My role is as a Senior EDI Consultant. On a daily basis, I utilize MAPADOC to create EDI partnerships between our customers and their retailers, which includes inbound and outbound EDI document mapping, formatting compliance labels, and sometimes branding packing lists. It is my job to map the data that is sent from the trading partner so our customers do not have to manually enter the data into their systems.
WHAT’S YOUR PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE?
I started working as an accounting clerk in an interior design company. I soon learned that accounting was not very challenging and I sought a job in a technology firm owned by the father of some kids I taught in Sunday school. My first assignment in 1996 was as a consultant for a company that sold hats, bags, and socks. They were using EDI translator software that needed constant updates – after each update, it took months to get the software working correctly again.
We moved from that EDI translator to Gentran, which is when I learned to do mapping in Gentran. In 1998, the company appointed me as their EDI Coordinator. We implemented MAPADOC in 2001 and grew to over 80 trading partners. I worked with Marthe [Chensel] and Ted [Levi] to integrate MAPADOC with Accellos Warehouse Management System, and it seemed that every time a trading partner wanted to implement a new document (such as the 753/754 or the ASN) or other requirements, our company was the first one required to make the changes. Marthe was great at taking the necessary requirements and then implementing them into MAPADOC, so that was very helpful.
After I left that previous company, I tried my hand at running my own business. Eventually, I called Gary Berman [the head of MAPADOC]. Gary graciously allowed me to work as a consultant until a position opened up as a full-time employee.
WHY DO YOU LOVE YOUR JOB?
I love to solve problems. Using MAPADOC to solve problems is my passion. MAPADOC is a great piece of software. It is very satisfying to work with MAPADOC and our team to solve the problems of our clients. I know how it is, from a user’s standpoint, when you have a stack of paperwork that needs to be manually processed. Because I know that feeling of paperwork dread, it is my goal to eliminate as much manual processing as possible. It is a great day when I help my clients and I get to hear them say thank you.
WHAT’S THE INSIDE SCOOP?
Using MAPADOC to process some of the less mainstream documents such as the 860 PO Change, the 852 Product Activity Data, the 753/754 Request for Routing/Routing Instructions, the 846 Inventory Advice, or the 820 Payment Remittance Advice documents can greatly reduce manual data entry, thus, reducing the chance of data-input errors in your system. Try it out.
